The persistant suspension of rationality and critical thinking required for a religious faith is something I find fascinating and scary. I jump at the chance to probe someone’s faith but I don’t expect to get them to shed it. I’d encourage critical thinking.
I’d hate to be a jeering atheist and I try to resist pointing out obvious contradictions and absurdities online since no-one wins. I firmly believe that religious practice should be tolerated but contained within society. Much like morris dancers.
As much as I admire Richard Dawkins as a biologist, as a preacher he only provides an easy target for ad hominem attacks.
