Education

See the disclaimer.

Much more to say on this than has been blogged.

Some starters:

  • The technology that students are using to organise their social lives is more sophisticated than that which they use for their studies.
  • More and more remedial work is required to bring undergraduates up to the standard where a degree has any kind of value.
  • The cost of a degree is increasing as the value deflates.
  • Universities are traditionally repositories of knowledge where you could talk to experts.  The web makes both these things generally accessible.
  • When information is so commonly available, there is less value in memorising stuff as developing the skills for accessing, filtering and organisng it.
